Poetry Monday: Money ..... and Funnies, the Extra-Long and Random Edition

It's Poetry Monday, and the topic is ..... MONEY.

Join Diane, MotherOwl, Mimi and me as we dip into our thoughts on this topic. You can leave your poem in the comments or post on your own blog; if you do the latter, please leave a comment so we can find you. Use the topic, or choose another. The objective is to have fun and work our brains.

*****

A week ago, when I chose this topic, I knew the world was changing but not the speed at which it would happen. The past week has made me contemplate health, and money, and a lot of things in between.

I tried to write a happy poem, and I tried to write a funny poem, but this is all that I could squeeze out of my brain. I've added some unrelated funnies below to help balance things out, and apologize for a rather heavy take on the topic, in this week of too much other heaviness.

*****

I Hope I Measure Up

Money buys a lot of stuff
A home, a car, a good cream puff
A trip, a haircut, clothes, a book
An education, food to cook

But there are things it cannot buy
A sunny day, a cleansing cry
A zest for life, a loyal friend
And courage at the very end

Yes, I know "sentances" is incorrect spelling, but it's not my caption!

Original caption, somehow lost in copy/paste: "His mom cuts his hair"

Have a good week, people, and stay healthy.

Next week's topic will be ..... PETS I'VE KNOWN AND LOVED ..... Good luck!

Heartfelt hugs and oceans of caring are flowing your way. Today and every day.
The man with the cat bagpipes? While at college we knew someone who did just that. When his cat scratched him I cheered.

Your cash ain't nothin' but trash
But I'm sure gonna get me some more

Or so said Steve Miller back in the day.

There are indeed things that money itself can't buy, but that's true of everything. Money can't buy you so much as a candy bar without you deciding to buy it.

The cat, on the other hand, cannot be trusted around the keyboard while the Amazon page is open...

I think your poem strikes a very appropriate tone for the present time.

That's a truly lovely, introspective poem to which I can relate, and I'm sure many others can, too. Your funnies are excellent. The cat whose mother cuts his hair looks just like me when I was in the fourth grade.

Love,
Janie

I love your poem! The funnies are all hilarious too. You always find the best. I especially love the cat prints through the paint on the road. That is so cat.

Take care!

Good poem, although a little sad but that was well ameliorated by so many humorous pics.

I love your poem and I LOVE the funnies.

I hope you last line is not prophetic, Jenny. Take care.

No, it's not a funny or ligth poem, but it is true and even rhymes. I share your hope. My poem was written last Monday. when the situation was much lighter.

Well , I for one like your poem. It's calm, peaceful and very realistic.

Great poem, Jenny! A little courage is what we all need right now!
And your funnies! I laughed and laughed.
Man, I needed that today!
Next week, because we all could use some cheer: Pets I've Known and Loved

Ugh - I would cheer too. I think the cat in that photo was just yawning; the man seems to be holding him gently. But definitely some people wouldn't.

Hugs and caring back to you in full measure, EC.

Thanks, Doug. I hope you and yours are well and safe in Sugar Pine.

And yes, cats are highly untrustworthy around the internet :)

I never had that haircut but I'm afraid our daughter did!

Thank you for the kind words, Janie Junebug.

jenny_o said...

Can't you just picture the cat doing that? lol

"The very end" is something I think about quite a bit, having been through my dad's passing, up close and personal.

Glad you liked the memes Andrew, and I hope you're safe whether you're still travelling or at home again.

And I love your comment! I aim to please :)
Thank you, too, for your nice comment on my comment on Murr's blog. It seemed like such an obvious explanation to me :)

I hope not, too. Unfortunately, it probably will be the case for somebody in our lives (all of our lives) before this virus is wrestled to the ground by our scientists.

That was a memorable week, wasn't it? A marker between "before" and "after".

jenny_o said...

Thank you, Red. I think about the end of my life quite often, not in a morbid way, but wondering how I will face it. I watched my dad do it, and he inspired me. Will I live up to that? I hope so.

jenny_o said...

That is a WONDERFUL topic, and you're right, we need cheer along with that courage!

You're welcome, dear little donkey.

Thanks for the chuckles!

Happy to provide, e!

Yes, that yellow footed cat looked the paint guy s.t.r.a.i.g.h.t. in the eye.

jenny_o said...

And didn't hurry a bit :)

Thanks, Mimi, you as well :)

MONEY

Blue mould upon a slab of Cheddar
Grey fur blooming on smelly Camembert
The Queen’s face appearing magically
On a forgotten wedge of Parmesan
A pound sign on the Brie
And so it seems to me
That
Money doesn’t grow on trees
In fact it grows on cheese.

Those funnies gave me a very much needed chuckle. Stay safe Jenny xxxxxx

Your poem strikes exactly the right mood with me - well said. And thanks for the funnies! I think we could all use some chuckles right about now.

jenny_o said...

Hah! And cheese that's intentionally moldy (like blue cheese) is a good money-maker for the cheese industry - it's expensive!

Thanks for contributing, YP.

jenny_o said...

You as well, Cherie!

jenny_o said...

Glad to provide, Diane!

Oh my gosh, I almost peed myself laughing with these! We definitely need some humour these days. Thanks for the chuckles! Stay safe and be well!
