Formatting Lessons? Why Would I Need Those?

This week I thought I'd use Wednesday Words as inspiration for my Friday post, which appears on Saturdays in some parts of the world.  Not at all confusing, is it?

Wednesday Words began with Delores (whose new blog is here), and it's being hosted this month by Elephant's Child. The words this month are provided by Margaret Adamson and Sue Fulcher.

To start, I'll just copy/paste the second list of words from Elephant's Child's blog.

Child's play!

  1. Staggering
  2. Lies
  3. Art
  4. Naked
  5. Preposterous
  6. Windmill.

  7. Crap how do I fix this auto-numbering??

  8. Grrrrr!
  9. Guess I'll just write my little paragraph as number 12 then. Here goes:

  10. AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!! Every time I hit Enter, I get another number! I CAN'T STOP THE NUMBERS!! THEY ARE LIKE ZOMBIES ... ZOMBIE NUMBERS THAT WON'T DIE!!
  11.
  12.
  13.
  14.
  15. *sigh*

  16. Okay then, my paragraph follows ...
  17. Blogger's promises of "easy set-up" that I relied on when starting my blog have proven to be a staggering bunch of lies! The art of writing is being constantly undermined by the need to figure out how to format my naked thoughts. It's preposterous! I'm ready to go find the nearest windmill and jump off. Fortunately, I believe there's a rather wide ocean between that windmill and me.

  18. *whimper*

  19. P. S. Have a good weekend, and thank you for visiting ..... :)

Big smiles.
I have had an issue or six with the formatting myself. And those rotten number paragraphs do my head in. Often.
Love your use of the words oh clever (albeit frustrated) one.

Phew! You know 30 had the poison dagger.

Kind words, EC - thank you. I really couldn't get rid of the numbers. It wasn't my choice to write what I did - I HAD to write it because the numbers just kept piling up, and I couldn't be bothered starting over! Laziness :)

That was actually a conscious choice, Joanne, believe it or not. I stuck in a few extra lines so I could end on an unfinished kind of feeling. Cool that you noticed. Your comment made me smile :)

Avoiding the windmill of staggering, preposterous, naked lies is an art.

OK, that was awkward, but it worked, sort of.
Should I consider using a different platform for my blog? I was thinking maybe WordPress
I hope you have a good weekend also.

It absolutely worked! I'm glad you played along. If you like this sort of thing, check out Elephant's Child's blog this month, each Tuesday (because it's Wednesday in Australia!) for the new words. There's a lot of wonderful support over there for everyone's writing.

About Blogger - I find if I'm just writing "from scratch" so to speak, it is fine. The problem in this post began when I copy/pasted the numbered words. I'm not sure if WordPress is any better in that regard. Chicken uses WordPress - maybe check with her?

I've had other minor glitches with Blogger, but have come to realize that if something's not working right, I need to go away for awhile and let it get over itself (seems to be a processing issue that goes away in a short while). Other people have had bigger issues with it, but either I haven't been using it long enough or I haven't got a complicated enough layout to run into those problems. Geo., who comments here, had a problem a couple of weeks ago, if you wanted to get an idea of what some people were dealing with.

Trying to get Windmill and Naked together in any paragraph is very skilllful I think. The formatting, less so, but very funny. :D

Yes, windmill plus naked sounds rather dangerous, does it not? Thanks for reading!

LOL -- I read this post yesterday and I thought I commented but maybe I didn't. In any case, when I have formatting trouble, I jump to the html tab and remove all the html tags. Then I jump back to "compose" and set things up the way I want. I don't think I've ever had numbering cause a problem, though -- do you compose your posts in Word (or another program) before putting them into Blogger? Maybe that's bringing over the formatting.

jenny_o said...

It's worth every cent you paid for it, Doug :)

No, I compose directly in Bloggger - except if I'm quoting something (such as the list of words for this post - which was already numbered, so I assume that's the problem). Sometimes I have issues with spacing between written copy and photos or between photos, but usually if I go away and come back and start again, it's fine - so I'm thinking that's just a thing with Blogger. I know nothing about html, so I should investigate that! Thanks for the troubleshooting, Steve.
