Why don't you join Delores and me in writing our thoughts on this wide-open topic? You can leave your poem in the comments on either of our blogs, or if you prefer to post on your own blog, please leave a comment to let us know where to find you.

Well, well, well.
You'd think if a person suggests a topic for a writing challenge, that person would have an inkling of what they wanted to write about, wouldn't you?
I thought music would be an easy thing to put into poetry -- after all, music basically IS poetry -- but guess what?
I got well and truly immersed in my own musical memories but couldn't write a single line about them. Not a rhyme. Not a coherent thought.
It wasn't until I gave up completely that my poetry muse showed up again.

A Confession
Oh I must have been myopic
To pick music for a topic
I thought things would be just fine
And I'd find the words to shine
Lots of false starts to my name
No one else but me to blame
I cry "Uncle" and submit
I give up, my friends - I quit
Apologies - I've many
To readers of me, Jenny
And to my friend Delores . . .
. . . Next week's topic's yours
(Sorry, Delores!)

Delores has given us the topic for next week: BLESSINGS . . .
Wishing you all a good week :)
It's always the way, as soon as you give up, everything falls into place. You did well with your poem.
ReplyDeleteThanks, River. My head is still sore from banging it on the keyboard, though :D
DeleteIt seems we all had trouble with this theme. Who could have guessed? It's a bit like playing "I spy ..." the simplest things are ofttimes the hardest to guess.
ReplyDeleteHere's my Music
Strange, isn't it?
DeleteThanks for playing along with the challenge again this week!
It was surprisingly difficult this week...after all RAP is just rhythm and poetry...you'd thing if a bunch of guys with difficulty keeping their pants up can do we could too but no.....it was quite hard.
ReplyDeleteLOL! Yes, it was far harder than I thought it would be.
DeleteLol. Great poem! After some thought, I totally agree. It’s not easy to do a poem about music.
ReplyDeleteIt surprised me, Marie!
DeleteNow do you sing this poem???
ReplyDeleteOnly on request - ha ha
DeleteTo me it would be writing lyrics to a song about lyrics to a song. I can barely remember words to songs I have known for decades let alone come up with something original. If I had that kind of talent I certainly wouldn't be doing what I do for a living! You amaze me weekly with that ability!
ReplyDeleteIt's really frustrating when nothing falls out of my mind onto the screen - seems like the words are either there or they're not, which goes against the "hard work makes the difference" ethic I was raised to believe in. Sheesh :)
DeleteIt's kinda funny, a lot of the song lyrics I wrote became poetry because I never could write music that worked for them, and they were written it a more poem-ish form anyway... With lyrics, fewer words is usually better.
ReplyDeleteBut as for music itself, it would not be much of an overstatement to say that I dedicated my life to it long ago, and just wish that I played it more often now.
I admire the honesty of your poem, and don't feel bad, writing about music isn't easy.

Thanks, Doug. I wish I played more often now, too, but not enough to actually, you know, PLAY more often. hah. But I'm still glad I had the experiences I did, as I'm positive you are too.
DeleteI like myopic and topic. Good work.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Thank you, Janie - I have to say I was pleased with that myself, ha ha
DeleteYour poem was great and the cat picture was perfect. You are so much fun, Jenny.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Arleen - no fools, no fun, as they say :) I like to amuse myself and I'm glad you find it fun too.
DeleteHAHA! I always enjoy your posts. They are fun...and quirky :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Martha - I like having fun with the poetry challenge. Quirky is just another word for weird, right? lol
Deletei loved the topic being poet dear Jenny !
ReplyDeletei absolutely ENJOYED your spontaneous flow of thoughts as excuse :)
sometimes it happened that the harder we try to shape our thoughts poetically the more they disperse but you still managed to say it so nicely :)
hugs!
You understood the problem precisely, dear baili! The harder I tried, the blanker my mind got :)
DeleteQuirky is much better than weird!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I am amused every single time I read "I can haz cheeseburger"
I know! It was a genius tag line that somebody stumbled on and has become so well known. I don't know if you're familiar with their website but the "cheezburger" meme is still used quite often. I don't borrow those because I prefer memes with less of an "in" joke so more readers can relate. But they're still very popular on that website. Along with the walrus and his bucket :)
DeleteOK, I have to admire that you found a rhyme for "Delores"!
ReplyDeleteHaha! It's close enough, right? :)
DeleteYou did it! LOL
ReplyDeleteI was getting desperate! hah
DeleteI like your poem - well done! (The kitty cartoon made me chuckle, too. There's nothing as distinctive as "that sound".) ;-)
ReplyDeleteWriting too close to a deadline is hair-raising, ha ha
DeleteI love that picture and have been wanting to use it for SO long :)
I think you did an excellent job with your poem. The meme is pretty super as well. Great minds must think alike as I wrote about music in my blog today as well. It's not a poem though. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by, Mr. S!
DeleteDear Jenny, excellent and delightful poem and post. Thanks also for the useful report at my blog! I tried going to the "user settings" section in the left margin of the blog start-page and was able to get a profile pic in there, but unfortunately it seems the repair is not retroactive..
ReplyDeleteHopefully it won't happen again. I'm glad you could find a partial fix at least.
