Poetry Monday: People We Know

It's Poetry Monday, and this week's theme is "people we know."

Join Diane, Delores and me as we explore this gold mine of possibilities. Read, write, or borrow a poem, and leave it in the comments on any of our blogs. Or post it on your own blog, and leave us a comment to help us find you. Use the theme, or not; the idea is just to strengthen our poetry-writing muscles and have fun.

I knew what I wanted to say this week, but I could not get those words to line up properly for the longest time. I almost gave up, but as they say, success is one part inspiration and ninety-nine parts desperation. No? That's not how the saying goes? Well, it's how the writing process felt this time around :)  In the end, it says what I feel, even if it is one of the shortest pieces I've ever written.

Bloggy People

Within the misty blogosphere
Are folks who live both far and near.
I haven't seen them face-to-face;
We've only met in cyberspace.
And yet to me these folks are friends . . .
Blogging pays high dividends.

*****

Welcome to my blogging world. Just step over the cat.

Have an excellent week, bloggy friends!

Update: Next week's theme is "food" . . .

An emphatic YES from here. Not only friends, but very dear ones.

I've made some good friends online, friends I most likely never would have talked to any other way because of who and what we are in our "real" lives.
I see that as a precious opportunity and a very good thing.
I like your poem, it expresses that thought beautifully.

Short and sweet and oh-so-true :)

Isn't it lovely how connected we feel to our blog friends. i think it's because we meet first as pure heart, the trappings unimportant.

I feel the same way Jenny.

Every blogger on my list is a hand of friendship. Lovely job.

I like your poem and it hits the nail when you describe bloggers.

An excellent poem! And hey, sometimes shorter is better. (No reflection on your poetry skills -- that's true in ALL writing!)

And an emphatic YES back to your addition :)

"A precious opportunity" is a great way to describe it - I feel so lucky to have found the online community. Well, the good part of it, anyway. There are some places I avoid out of self-preservation, just like real life :)

That's like a little poem right there, River!

I think you're right, and you expressed it far better than I could have!

I'm thinking we're all in agreement here :)

jenny_o said...

Yes, great way to describe it, Delores!

jenny_o said...

I guess if we didn't like it we wouldn't keep it up, right? :)

You should see all the verses I deleted! :D

It does, doesn't it? And online friends are real.

Liked your poem Jenny and there's nothing wrong with short and sweet as long as the meaning/message comes across loud and clear, which yours does.

I'm using a poem I wrote a few years ago, as the weather here in the UK is blisteringly hot and I'm finding it hard coping with it, hence my absence last week. So, I'm kind of cheating if you like, although it is one of mine.

When I lived in Wales I started reading a few blogs and one of them was Ilona's, Life After Money and was so inspired by her many interests that I wrote a poem. A good few months later and after much dithering I sent it to her intending it to be just for her, BUT she e-mailed me saying she was going to use it for her next post. I was flabbergasted and felt a little embarrased by the attention. Anyway there were some lovely comments from her readers which were lovely to receive.

A Tribute to Ilona.

Ilona is the Mean Queen
Of Life After Money blog fame.
She is a unique character,
Who puts us all to shame.

She has wide and varied interests,
Boredom she does not know.
Rarely planned, she tackles life,
Going with the flow.

Trekking all over the country,
In sunshine, wind and rain.
It doesn't matter if she misses a sight,
She'll return to see it again.

Modern art is a favourite hobby,
A talent which comes from within.
Creating a one-off masterpiece,
With bits and bobs from her bin.

Her meals are truly legendary,
With never two plates filled the same.
She'll add this, with a pinch of that,
Treating it more like a game.

Her imagination knows no bounds,
On recycling things from her store.
Full of ideas, she'll let you know,
What you can do with a door.

Compassionate and caring,
Ilona has friends by the ton.
Not only humans in Blogland,
But all animals under the sun.

Her cats think she's the bees knees,
When she caters for every whim.
And as for her pet dog Rocky,
Well, he's thankful she looks after him.

I would like to be more like Ilona,
With her spirit, energy and zest.
Then when I'm done, I'll know for sure,
That I've done my absolute best.

Ilona kept this poem on the bottom of her side-bar for nearly twelve months, so I think she was pleased with the tribute I paid her.

Anyway, see you next week Jenny, take care.

That is a wonderful poem, Joan! No wonder Ilona loved it. I read her blog, too, and am amazed at how creative she is with what most people would see as junk. Her work is art.

Never apologize for using a pre-written poem -- I love to see everyone's contribution, regardless of when, where, how it was written!

Thanks for taking part, Joan. I hope your weather moderates soon. We are starting into a heat wave here and I'm not looking forward to it one bit.

Such a cool poem. And so true! I have the most amazing blogging pals.

Maybe the cat needs a blog :)

Hmmmmm . . . maybe she DOES . . . :D

Minimalism of language distils thoughts to become perfect little expressions. You did good.

My blogging friends have carried me through lots of hard times and I regard them all with affection

jenny_o said...

I like your first sentence, there. It is an example in itself!

You just amaze me sometimes. It's a good thing.

jenny_o said...

Oh, well, then, as long as it's GOOD, I won't have to block you :D

Short? I call it succinct. I also return its affectionate sentiment tenfold. All my best wishes, Jenny!

jenny_o said...

Thank you, Geo.! You are the master at succinct poetry!

Diane Stringam Tolley said...

Excellent. More than excellent! You can say more in a few words (and in perfect rhyme) than any one I know! Well done!

Diane Henders said...

Love the poem, and completely agree with it, too. Well done! (And your kitty is adorable.)

I really like this poem and I think it's very true. Now I just need to step over that dozy cat!

Thank you, Diane - you have been such an inspiration for me!
