Poetry Monday: Marbles . . . and Funnies

It's Poetry Monday, and this week's topic is . . . MARBLES.

Join Delores, MotherOwl, Mimi, Diane and me as we find -- or lose -- ours.

You, too, can have your poetic efforts read by an enormous audience, all of whom are VIPs (Very Intelligent People) and also very kind. Write a little or a lot; use the topic or not. It's fun! It's free! It's the kind of brain exercise that's recommended to help stave off dementia as well as skin problems, questionable life choices, and early onset heeby-jeebies, so why not give it a try? You may post your poem here in the comments or on your own blog; if you do the latter, please leave a comment so we know where to find you.

*****

I will apologize in advance for the icky nature of this poem. The two words "marble" and "harble" (hairball) kept clanging around in my head, so when I thought of "Barb'll", I'm afraid the outcome was simply unavoidable.

*****

A Tale of Barb And Her Cat

There once was a feline named Marble
Who often produced a large harble
He favoured the rug
And he looked very smug
And when asked who'd clean up, he said "Barb 'll!"

*****

How about some funnies to help get over that image?

That's it for this week!

Next week's topic will be .......... SUMMER FUN ................... thank you, Diane!

Hope your week has lots of lols in it :)

Smug and hairballs go together. For the wielder anyway.
Love the funnies though a couple are on the black side of funny.

I read Harble like someone was trying to say hairball with a hairball caught in their throat.

dear jenny you always surprise me with your use of topic :)

i loved it and your invention did great here
feline sounds to have same problem of hair fall like me lol only one obvious difference that i am barb myself to clean the rug :)

i enjoyed the funnies thoroughly too ,use of "h" in spaghetti reminds me many words with same problem ,when my youngest son was little he would ask lot "mom why are the words used that have no use " :)

wishing you happy and serene days of life ahead my dear friend!

Your poem is as funny as the funnies and every one of them made me laugh.

Good poem and great cartoons.

When I was a little kid, my sister used to fry them, and I have no idea why.
When I was a little older of a kid, I was such a motorcycle racing geek that I built little downhill tracks to race marbles on out of fence slats and modeling clay in my bedroom.
The penguin with the cymbals seems strangely familiar...

Oh dear! Harble under sock!

Yet again, you've treated the topic with great creativity

Jennyy that was so cute. It made me laugh and I needed one.

Maybe the smugness is just relief! But it's hard to tell :)

I'm hoping that last picture did not involve any death . . .

jenny_o said...

And may I just say that is a great addition :D

jenny_o said...

"I am barb myself" - hahaha! We grownups are ALL Barb, aren't we?!

Your son had an excellent point :)

jenny_o said...

That makes me happy!

jenny_o said...

I try :) I appreciate your comment, Andrew.

If you heat them they'll crack throughout and have a different, and apparently desired, appearance. My brother used to do the same thing, but not in a frying pan - he'd put them on top of our wood stove!

(I still had hairballs on the brain when I read your first sentence and for a split second I interpreted it as your sister frying cat hairballs ... sure glad it wasn't :D)

Does that penguin and bear remind you of something political, perhaps? hah

And yet not a whiff of class, kylie!! Thank you anyway :)

Oh, good - Not good that you needed one, though.

And can I tell you here that I enjoyed your poem (because I can no longer comment on your blog) - marbles and lego - which one has caused more accidents, I wonder? Well done, and we will miss your poetry, my friend.

I’ve been commenting for half an hour on blog posts and just now discovered that none of them registered. So I downloaded Chrome for my browser and ‘voila’ I can respond! Yay!
I wanted to say “In our home, the go-to is “Mom’ll do it!” Sigh.
And those pictures are absolutely hilarious! Where do you find them?!

I love the stream of consciousness of you thought processes, Jenny.

How frustrating about the comments - I used to have trouble sometimes but after switching to Firefox it's never been an issue. I'm glad Chrome is working better for you.

"Mom'll" - yep :)

Most of the pictures I use have come from icanhas.cheezburger.com but those in turn come from other sources. I check the website every day and when there's something good I save it in my "lolcat" file for future use. It's surprising how often I can find something that just fits whatever I'm writing about! Another source for funny cat pictures is Mr. Meowgi on Twitter, and for dog pictures, Good doggos, also on Twitter. It sounds rather pathetic, but they're often the high point in my day - lol

jenny_o said...

That's kind of you, Marie - when it's required, I CAN write with planning and organization, I promise you!!

Heeheehee! Great Limerick, and right now i'm so happy to own a cat, i could just barf. Oh, wait a minute, never mind, my very thoughtful cat just did it for me, and right on my bed, too. ;)

Thanks for the funnies!

As useless as the "h" in spaghetti! Bwahahahahahaha.

You will be missed very much, Delores.

I think cats think that a hairball is a gift that we will appreciate. They see us kneeling in front of it as we scrub it up and think we are honoring their masterpiece.

jenny_o said...

Yes, the bed is a favourite spot, too!

Glad you liked the funnies :)

jenny_o said...

Hee hee - glad you enjoyed :)

Harble indeed, especially on the bed...

I hadn't thought of it that way before, Arleen - makes sense - lol

Yes, ugh!

Your poem has given me a case of the giggles. I also feel sorry for poor Phyllis who can't go to trampoline parties.

Love,
Janie

jenny_o said...

Giggles are good! I'm happy about that :)

Poor Phyllis doesn't look any bigger than the other gals but she's gotten all the blame!

Diane Henders said...

Bahahaha!!! I've cleaned up far too many harbles in my lifetime, and this is the first one that's ever made me laugh. Well done! :-)

jenny_o said...

Well, good! Harbles aren't too funny in real life, are they? :D

Janie Junebug said...

I thought frying hairballs, too.

John M said...

Thanks, made me smile.

jenny_o said...

Success! :)

Poor Phyllis. Thanks for the chuckle, jenny_o. Take care.

jenny_o said...

Being excluded will put Phyllis in a bad moo-d, I'm sure :D

You take care, too, Mr. S.

Lots of giggles here.
