It's Poetry Monday, and this week's topic is ..... RESPONSIBILITIES.
Join Diane, MotherOwl, Mimi, and contributors in the comments in writing on this weighty topic. You can leave your poem (or a poem by another author, with credit) in the comments, or post on your own blog. If you do the latter, please leave a comment so we can find you. Use the topic, or not. The idea is to have some satisfying fun and work our brains.
*****
My husband is quite ill, and we are having trouble getting a diagnosis.
It's not the coronavirus; it started long before that. He is a very private person and I have not wanted to break that privacy by writing about it.
For a long time, I was able to compartmentalize (a skill I had to learn during my father's years of disability and illness), but this week I have hit the wall. All I can think of is my husband's health.
So I am taking a break.
Please feel free to leave poems in the comments - I will publish them as usual.
Carry on, my friends.
Updated: Next week's topic, courtesy of Diane, is ..... TOMATOES ..... good luck :)
I'm very sorry to hear of some difficult circumstances. I wish you all the best at a difficult time.
ReplyDeleteMay your husband be feeling much better very soon.
ReplyDeleteThat's my cheap version of an Irish blessing, sometimes it helps, sometimes not. May this be the former.
This poem is dedicated to the +/- 100 million eligible voters who sat out the 2016 election.
There is no more denying, to the sane
That things are falling apart all around us.
Whose responsibility is it
To put them back together?
When there comes no clear answer to such a question
I usually just assume the answer must be mine.
So here I go.
I could use some help.
Feel like helping this time?
-Doug in Sugar Pine
Oh, please help this time! Please!
DeleteOh Jenny, I am sorry to hear this. I do understand the worry and stress of an illness of someone close to you. Please remember to take care of yourself while you are taking care of him! We will miss you but some things are more important. I'm keeping you both in my prayers and sending love and healing thoughts. xxx
ReplyDeleteUncertainty is the very worst. Prayers for enlightenment and strength from Denmark.
ReplyDeleteOh Jenny love. I am thinking of you and your hubby. Please give that man a hug from me and tell him I am thinking of you both. Please stay safe and don't forget to take care of yourself too.
ReplyDeleteTake all the time you need. We will be thinking of you.
ReplyDeleteAll best wishes, dear Jenny. So sorry to learn your husband is ill. We too have had sadness lately, which impelled me to write a poem for the 1st time in over a month: https://lepslog.blogspot.com/2020/08/wonder-watches.html
ReplyDeleteIt helps. It helps to "compartmentalize", to organize --to let love, reason and care commingle.
Sorry to hear your husband is having some health problems Jenny. Of course your priority has to be him and whatever you can do to make him more comfortable. I hope he soon recovers from whatever it is. Take care of you both.
ReplyDeleteHoping answers to your husband's health may be found, as well as treatment that will help him--along with some peace for you.
ReplyDeleteNot for publishing.
ReplyDeleteJenny, I am so sorry to hear about your husband's prolonged illness. I do hope you manage to find some kind of resolution and way forward soon. This must be a really tough time for both of you. You have shown so much kindness and patience to your readers and commenters, so you really need to put yourself and your family first for a while. We shall miss you, but I am sure we all send you our love and support. xx Heather
Jenny, I am so sorry to hear your news and under the circumstances I quite understand that my take on 'responsibilities' may seem a little frivolous. However, it is written, so here it is. I hope it raises a smile.
ReplyDeleteBuster has a task to do,
A very special one.
He’s been told to guard the birthday cake -
It’s not a lot of fun.
He’s sitting in the kitchen
With no-one else around
He’s feeling lonely on his own.
Ah! He’s just heard a sound -
A soft pad-padding across the floor
And Percy Puss appears.
Buster gives a warning growl -
This is going to end in tears.
Precious Percy, lithe of limb,
Leaps onto the table.
Buster fears what’s coming,
And just before he’s able
To swat that dratted cat away
A jug of cream goes sailing
In a graceful arc across the room …
OMG!
Poor Buster. He feels that he is failing
In his duties. It’s his worst dream.
But it’s the CAKE he has to guard
(And not the *** cream)!
The crash brings Sally running
To see what all the fuss is.
Buster’s eyes are on the cake,
Whilst the precious puss’s
Whiskers are being swiftly cleaned
By Percy’s velvet paw.
Ha! Sally knows what’s happened here -
There’s been spilt cream before.
Percy’s not a happy puss.
He’s been caught out and that
Does not enhance his image as
A slinky, artful cat.
But Buster’s tail is wagging
‘Cos he’s happy now it’s done -
His guarding duty’s over
And it’s time for birthday fun!
(Job Done, Buster.)
Hahaha! Well done, Buster! Now a question: Did Buster frame the slinky Percy? If so, very well done! ;)
DeleteThinking of you And your husband Jenny. Sending good vibes across the Strait..

ReplyDeleteI am very sorry to hear that your husband is not well. It must be an anxious time for you Jenny - made worse by the fact that you are not sure what the problem is. In health affairs, knowing the truth is better than mystery and guesswork.
