Poetry Monday: What Makes Me Laugh

It's Poetry Monday! The topic this week is "what makes us laugh."

Join Diane, Delores and me as we spill the beans about what tickles our funny bones. You can join in, too; leave a poem at any of our blogs. If you prefer to post on your own blog, please leave a comment so we can find you.

*****

I couldn't come up with a satisfactory poem this week, so I'm taking a pass. Regular service will resume next week.

In the meantime, here are some things that make me smile.

Thanks for the funnies, icanhas.cheezburger.com!

Hope your week goes well, everyone!

Update:  Next week's topic is "trees" . . .

    1. Glad you enjoyed them, EC. I love elephants, too -- and their children :D

  2. Hello Jenny, I won't be taking part either as not one single idea came to me nor did I have anything prepared in my archives, lol.

I did, however, find this short poem which I thought might 'fit the bill' in some way.

    Thoughts

    My mind began to wander,
    Where wandering minds do go.
Thinking this, that and the other,
I allowed my thoughts to flow.

Soon they were all spilling over
    And clamouring for a view.
    Jostling and pushing aside,
To be the first in the queue.

    They became a massive jumble,
    Where thoughts and thoughts overlap.
    So I quickly decided;
That instead I would take a nap.

    Have a good week.

    1. Thoughts do that to me, too . . . and a nap helps sort them out! Thank you for contributing, Joan. I found the topic surprisingly difficult this week. It was hard to pin down just what appeals in the humour department.

    2. Yes, I know what you mean. I may smile a lot and think something was funny, but not actually laugh about it. Then there may be something that tickles my funny bone and I can't stop laughing while others are looking at me wondering what I'm laughing at. Hey ho, it's a good thing we're all different.

      Glorious trees next week.

    3. Exactly! I've laughed hard over things others have no reaction to, too.

  4. WHAT

"What" is a word I like to see
Cos it makes me happy as can be
"What" makes me chuckle then laugh like a mule
It first made be giggle when I went to school
"What is the answer?" the stern teacher said
As she plonked a dunce's hat on my big head
I sat in the corner chuckling with glee
Yes "what" has always seemed funny to me.

    1. Perhaps that explains your urge to explore and learn, YP :)

      Do mules laugh? ha ha

  6. All good ones but I'm partial to owls. Of course I'm also partial to cats, dogs, groundhogs, elephants and hippos. It was a tough one this week to wax poetic over wasn't it?

    1. It was! I was surprised by how hard it was. I had difficulty articulating just what makes me respond to some things and not others. I thought it would be a piece of cake, but - no.

  7. No extra words needed! This was just what I needed!

    1. I felt it was such a great topic, and then - boom, nothing! I started but struggled and struggled, so reverted to pictures :)

  8. I'll tell you what's been making me laugh lately: the cat.
He's decided, as many cats do, that he likes drinking water from everywhere except his water bowl, and his very favorite place is from the vase of flowers on the coffee table.
Briana had a glass of water next to that vase, and he has commandeered it, so she just keeps filling it back up when he drinks it down to where he can't reach the water any more.
What I've been laughing at is what we have been calling the "foot dance" he does every time he drinks from the glass.
As soon as he gets to the water, he lifts first one front paw, then the other, and shakes them three times.
No matter how many times he does it, it still makes me laugh, and now whenever he jumps up onto the coffee table, we cheer him on "Foot dance! Foot dance!"

    1. That's funny! I wonder why he does it? We'll probably never know!

    2. It might be the glass tickling his whiskers, but it's hard to really know with cats.
I just saw this and thought of you. This guy claims to have built a squirrel-proof bird feeder, and it looks as if it would keep the larger birds out as well:

    3. That is a very clever feeder. I was thinking that about the larger birds as well.

  10. HAHA! These were so funny. I especially liked the one with 'the Academy' :) And isn't that always the case with waiters/waitresses? They seem to stop by when your mouth is full of food.

  11. Hi Jenny, I enjoyed looking at the funnies even though i’m not really in the mood right now. It’s nobody’s fault. Poems must be hard to write.

    1. Sometimes poems are VERY hard to write! Other times they almost write themselves. I hope you feel better soon. I've been reading your posts but there is no way to comment on the last few.

  12. That little owl is adorable! And I'm still giggling about "Whom". Hope you have lots of smiles this week!

  13. My favourite is the lab with the trash lid on his head. It must be dreadful for the poor pups who just seem to be followed around by disaster
