And by writing I mean typing, and by desk I mean computer table. Somehow typing-computer-table doesn't have the same ring as writing desk, though, does it?
Moving right along.
Our bird feeder has attracted the attention of a couple of very large crows, who are none too pleased with the fact that the feeder is hanging up. They much prefer to wrench it free and throw it on the ground, where they attack it with their pointy face-weapons.
I'd throw it on the ground out of sheer embarrassment, too, if I were a crow. trying to sit on top of that very small feeder. It looks a little like an adult sitting in a toddler-size chair. I haven't managed to get a picture yet because there is a very small window of time between the crows' arrival at the feeder and the throwing of the feeder to the ground; however, I shall persevere.
As if re-locating the feeder every day is not enough, the crows have also damaged it; the hook at the end of the chain has disappeared into the lawn, no doubt to be spit out by the lawnmower this summer. I just hope it doesn't hit anything important, like a person or a window.
This has been a busy week for me due to some health issues my mother is having. So I'll wrap this up with a picture borrowed from icanhas.cheezburger.com, and call it a day.

DeleteThose bird beaks are powerful pieces of equipment, aren't they? But as you say, we are charmed anyway. They can't help the way nature wired them.
Birds have no pride when feeding. Although we have quite a few bird feeders in our yard, some Cardinals came on my deck to eat from the bowl of cat food that we put out for the feral cats, one of which was sleeping a few feet away. They ate her food and the lazy cat snoozed.

DeleteWe have a few large, loud, crows who hang out in the tree across the fence, and I fear that if they're still around when the peaches get ripe, we won't get any. Oh well, it's the other neighbor's peach tree anyway, it just overhangs our yard and drops a few delicious peaches there.

ReplyDeleteHaha! Years ago when my dad had several large gardens, he ranted quite a bit - the crows were smart and determined and had more time to get in trouble than he had time to prevent them from getting in trouble!

Argh -- crows. They're so big, they can be destructive without exactly meaning to be. And they're not the nicest birds either. (We have the same problem, plus mischievous magpies.) Hope your mom is doing better.

DeleteCrows come to our fat ball feeders too. They sit on the branch above and reach down to peck away at the food supply. I don't mind at all. They need to eat - just like the smaller, cuter birds. I think crows are pretty intelligent and resourceful.

DeleteI'm sure by July we'll all be healthy again :) My mother is rarely sick and has never had confusion during illness before. She lives alone, so I was checking on her a lot to make sure she was okay. But she is improving steadily now - thanks.
Sorry to hear that your mom is not well. I hope she will get better soon. It's always worrying when an elderly parent is ill. On the other hand, your description of the crows and your bird feeder is hilarious!
